The premiere episode of Flash Forward has come and gone, and here are my $0.02 about it.
First, the premise: everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds at the same time. During the blackout every person in the world has a unique dream. How, why, we don’t know.
I was a little taken back by how the show started; very Lost-like. However, the show was pretty good. FBI agents are called to solve the mystery of the blackouts. The interesting thing is that the dreams that everyone had at the same time weren’t just dreams, they were “flash forwards” of the future. As soon as I realized this I thought the show would suck, “here comes another 8 seasons of dreams and how they get to that point in the future.” I was then informed by a colleague that the writers have already planned five seasons and that by the end of the first season they would reach the flash forward that we’ve already seen. Thank you!!
You know, it’s really hard to plan ahead for network TV since it all depends on ratings. But if there was a show that could work on individual seasons it could potentially break the cycle of getting shitty after a couple of seasons and loosing its way. Could Flash Forward be it? I don’t know. It definitely has a lot of potential, but then again, lots of shows that have potential get cancelled (I loved Journeyman).
I’ll be watching the next few episodes for sure. It’s got a strong cast including Joseph Fiennes and “Penelope” from Lost (does this mean she won’t be in the final season of Lost?). Make sure to check it out, the season premiere is up on Hulu.
