Wordpress for the iPhone has been out for quite some time now, and an update is now pending review by Apple. Here’s what I would like to see to actually make this App more useful.
There are several things missing that prevent me from using the App as a real publishing tool. In fact I’m writing this post via the App to really put it to the test, but I typically use it only to moderate comments.
There are two things that I have to have: support for custom fields and support for excerpts. These two features happen to be key due to the way that this current (and the upcoming) theme works.
The next thing that would be a nice addition would be support for plugin control. To be able to activate, deactivate, set preferences, etc would be a really nice option.
Another thing that’s missing is better category management. This is basic. It’s very difficult to add a category to a post, and quite frankly, confusing. Also pulling tags you’ve got set up online. Right now if you use lot’s of tags you’re left guessing as to which ones to use.
Of course we’re now using the iPhone OS 3.0, so we should be able to get push notifications of new comments, pingbacks, etc.
That’s it. That’s all I want. If we get that I’ll be happy.
