iPhone App Lethal Gets An Update, Still Needs Work

The guys from Lethal have issued an update, and have added much functionality to their App. They now list countless more cities around the country, and they have begun to list some cities in Canada as well. Not only that, they now also list several new threats, disasters, and wildlife dangers. The new update touts to also have more localized diagnoses, so if you’re in a city as big as Los Angeles or New York, you can get different threat levels depending on where you are. However, I’ve had a hard time making that work.

Living near Downtown Los Angeles, and working near Beverly Hills, I expected to have different levels of danger. Here’s what my result was for both locations:

I’m no rocket scientist, but I’m pretty sure that Beverly Hills isn’t in danger of Great White Sharks and Hammerheads. Still this App is a fantastic solution to get an overall idea of the general threat level for your area. It’s a very promising App for the iPhone, and I’m sure with a couple of more updates this will be gold. Keep up the good work guys, can’t wait to see what you do in the future.

Well, see now this is not so much an “error” as a decision – that has received great debate within Team Lethal – to make the readings more fun and informative. Since most major cities and towns aren’t RIGHT on the ocean, we go 10-15 miles inland and still list sea animals. Frankly, we just think it’s cooler to see more animals on the list.

In a future update, we’re going to allow people to choose whether they want to display sea animals even when they aren’t RIGHT on the ocean. Do you have any other suggestions of how to get around this?

Also, while the animals might not have changed between beverly hills and downtown, the crime should have… and thus the overall lethal index should have as well. Did that happen?

How about being able to choose a radius around your area? For example, if I’m in Downtown LA, I could choose to see a radius of 10 miles around me. I see what you’re trying to do with the wildlife situation, I just think that it doesn’t apply to so many cities in LA that its kinda weird to see Beverly Hills in danger of shark attacks (though it’s funny).

Just to let you know… in an update coming out, the shark / LA situation has been taken care of!
