Battlestar Galactica Nears Its End

Comments Off

Battlestar Galactica is finally coming to a close after many years. It is a sad time for everyone. The series finale promises to blow everyone away with mind bending answers and perhaps even questions. I, for one, am hoping that Ron Moore didn’t forget to answer some of the most basic things that the show has asked or presented us with during its course. So here it is, a round up of the things that are still in need of answers.

1. The master plan
This is of course a no-brainer. Ever since the show began they’ve thrown the phrase “and they have a plan” right in our face, and yet every time we think we’re getting close to learning what the plan is they take it away by steering us in another direction. I have complete faith in the writers in this case. This season in particular has been absolute gold, so I can’t imagine them messing up the series finale.

2. Head Six
Again, another one that’s been around since the mini-series. Baltar has been seeing a model six in his head that no one else sees. For a while we all thought that this was the same one that was in Caprica with him, however that turned out to be wrong. Not only that, when we got to see Caprica Six┬áresurrect, she began having her own little Head Baltar. Fast forward a season or two and then we have Baltar with a Head Baltar. During the course of season 4 we haven’t seen all that much of Head Six, but in recent episodes she has resurfaced. Here’s the thing. I don’t need for the writers to answer this with some really involved and convoluted solution that only makes sense in the BSG world. I want to see something dark and twisted as the reason why these two characters see each other. I want it to hurt. Once Baltar finds the true reason and source or his visions, I want it to be so horrific for him that it kills him. Yes, I want him to die.

3. Earth
Yes, they found it, but after spending so much time trying to find it, it’s hard to believe that they would leave it so quickly. It almost from one episode to the next that they picked up and left. Hello? What’s the hurry? Stick around for a while, do some research, perhaps there’s survivors… who knows. It just seemed so jarring that they would change their plans so fast. I’m hoping that Earth comes back into the picture in some way. What can I say, I love this planet.

4. Hera, the Opera House, and the visions
It’s pretty clear now that Hera will be playing a crucial role in the series finale. But going back to point #3, where is this Opera House? Is it not on Earth? And why are these characters all having visions of this place together?

5. Kara Thrace and her destiny/dead double
For a while now we’ve been told that she’s special and that she has a destiny. What is this destiny? Is she really the harbinger of death? What does that even mean?

Anyway, it’s a bittersweet end nonetheless. As soon as the credits roll, I’ll probably want to start the whole thing again (for the 5th time). In the mean time, check out some photos of Ron Moore and Edward James Olmos I took at the Jules Verne Film Festival in LA. Post 1 | Post 2
