The new Facebook has arrived, and just like the last time they updated it, everyone hates it… except for me. There is only one reason why any social networking site should change their layout, and that’s to add functionality. This new change brings about several enhancements that totally rock.

For starters, the news feed is now all about filtering. If you’ve been using Facebook’s groups when adding friends (e.g. work, school, etc), those groups are now displayed on the left bar for you to click on and see a filtered news feed from only the people in that group. You can also easily make new groups and add people to them effortlessly. Below these groups are other ways of filtering, like Photos, Notes, Twitter, etc, to see stories of that type alone.

On the right you have your Highlights, which are popular groups, notes, photo albums, or whatever that has gotten the attention of several people. Also, the “what’s on your mind” box is everywhere, so no matter where you post something, it’s funneled to the news feed. Additionally, when in someone’s profile, you can choose to see their mini feed with only things they’ve posted, they’re friends, or both together. All in all it’s filtering heaven.
