I was checking out my Google Analytics recently, and noticed something new called Segments. I’m not sure how long this has been up, I only noticed it just now, but it does say that it’s in beta version. Segments will allow you to view not only the trend of visitors in the usual map, but several trends at the same time, each one with a different color. Not only that, for every trend that you choose, every part of Analytics will now reflect to show you each of those trends. It wouldn’t be very Google if they stopped there.
You can also add Smart Segments, which act very similar to Smart Playlists or Smart Mailboxes in OS X, which allows you to set criteria for the type of information you want to see, for example, below, out of a total of 550 visits, how many of them arrived after a certain hour of the day?
There’s plenty of rules to mess with, and once you’ve created your custom segment, you can save it and add it to your dashboard. This is the result:
Pretty amazing. If you’re not using Google Analytics yet, what are you waiting for?
