The iPhone is obviously a hit. The App Store is as well. There’s a lot of speculation about Apple releasing some kind of netbook during Macworld, and I have a prediction of my own. I think what’s gonna happen is that apple will realease a bigger iPhone-like device, much like a tablet. The difference however will be the fact that it’s also going to have a closed ecosystem like the iPhone.
Software for the iPhone is relatively cheap. The really fancy stuff costs typically no more than $9.99. Building a tablet with added functionality that the iPhone doesn’t have, by adding on things like multi-gesture keyboards (which apple has patented) will make an unresistible device. This will also let Apple have an incredible amount of quality control. We’re gonna see a much more enhanced App Store. Think of how far iPod software has gone over the years, and then think of the App Store in one to two years. In fact, in the future we obviously won’t buy software on CDs and DVDs, we’ll download it from some sort of App Store (which will also eliminate software piracy)
People talk about the iPhone as the next thing in mobile gaming, I think it’s actually going to be the next device they release. A more powerful device will allow for even more sophisticated applications; think Photoshop, word processors, and more, all with wireless printing of course.
Anyway, what do you think??
