I’ve finally constructed the Holy Grail of media setups (almost at least). This is what I currently have:
I’ve got an HDTV in my living room, and the way that it’s set up is I’ve got the small office nook behind the TV. So, I’ve connected my Mac Pro to the HDTV to watch my media. A while back I had purchased the Mira software with its IR receiver because Mac Pros don’t come with one. This however had turned into a nightmare because of its lack of support for Leopard. With its newest software release, it’s almost perfect. It supports Leopard with a few glitches. Regardless, sitting on the couch I can press the menu button on my Apple Remote and have Front Row on the HDTV.
Step two was to get streaming media from sites like Hulu on there without having to mirror my Mac Pro, go to Hulu.com, and click on full screen. Enter Boxee.tv. Boxee.tv will stream media from Hulu, Comedy Central, CNN, Revision3, and many other sites. It even has a Torrent interface that will download public domain movies and TV shows (usually stuff from 1920’s to 1970’s).
I’ve set Boxee to open in full screen on my secondary display. But the cool thing is that with Mira, I can set it to open any application I want with a click of the Apple Remote button. So the menu button opens Front Row, and the play button opens Boxee. While in Boxee I can control everything with the Apple Remote.
Finally, my dreams have come true. Now all I need is Netflix.

Yo dude that is sick. We need to hang at your house sometime. I wanna see that epic setup.
I’m working on a Boxee plugin for FrontRow. It’s a little rough but it adds a boxee item to the main menu.
